Day 4: Life happening…when all seemed lost!

Little Rosa is 6 and has been with our organisation since 2021 as a sponsored child. She lives in the rural communities of Chongoene, close to the city of Xai-Xai.

Her father has been absent from home for a long time and her mother takes care of 3 other children. Her little sister Amelia attends the local Escolinha Santa Catarina, one of the ALG pre-schools.

Earlier in May there was a fire in the family home and all their possessions were gone. Luckily none of the family members were home so there were no personal injuries.

Our team joined efforts to immediately build a new home for this Mabote family. Works kicked off early July and the new dwellings are practically finished. Rosa and her family will soon return to a secure HOME, simple but with dignified and essencial conditions.

Over the period they were homeless, neighbours gave them temporary shelter. This was an example of how the local community comes together for protection – often the case in the communities where ALG is present.

One month later, it is so rewarding to see life restart again for this family, after so much seemed totally lost! The building works had a total spend of c. £2 500. It was done simply but with more resistant materials.
